Nayak's decision to join Congress stemmed from his disappointment after failing to secure a ticket for the upcoming elections from the BJP.

Expressing his discontent over not receiving the BJP's nomination for the Bari constituency, Nayak took to social media to announce his decision to run independently. The BJP, meanwhile, had named Umesh Jena as its candidate for the Bari constituency in its fifth list of MLA candidates.
