Bhubaneswar, April 25: In a bid to protect the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, from the devouring wildfire the Odisha forest department has installed as many as 5 Artificial Intelligence(AI) based, which have been mounted in towers.
These high resolution AI cameras fitted in highly mounted towers will report forest fire promptly to the vigilance wing of the authorities so that the fire can be addressed on a war footing, said Principal Chief Conservator of Forest(PCCF), Susant Nanda.
Based on the satellite database and high-end surveillance technology the green fighters and Odisha Disaster Raped Action Force (ODRAF) contingents deployed in the Wildlife sanctuary have so far contained the forest fire in the buffer area of the Similipal Tiger Reserve. However, the wildlife resources are reportedly scampering in the core area.
The PCCCF said , five tower-based AI systems have been installed on a priority basis across the Similipal sanctuary in a first.Equipped with high-resolution cameras capable of 360-degree views, these towers can capture activities up to the radius of 15 km.
Apart from reporting forest fire the 360 degree AI cameras will also focus on poaching activities from wide angles, the PCCCF added.
