While rubella is not fatal for children, pregnant women are at risk, as it can lead to congenital rubella syndrome in their offspring, causing heart diseases, cataracts, and mental retardation

Nabarangpur, May 8: Health officials in Odisha's Nabarangpur district have confirmed the detection of two rubella and one measles cases across two blocks. The samples, collected from five affected persons on April 29, have tested positive for rubella.

The minors have been identified as Tripati Majhi (2) and Kapilash Majhi (5) Padalguda village in Nandahandi block of the district

“The cases among children have been detected in Nandahandi and Tentulikhunti areas following sample tests. While rubella is not fatal for children, pregnant women are at risk, as it can lead to congenital rubella syndrome in their offspring, causing heart diseases, cataracts, and mental retardation, says Malaya Tripathy, the in-charge CDMO of Nabarangpur.

Official sources have confirmed the exclusion of Scrub typhus through tests. “Two blocks in Nabarangpur are affected, where cases of fever with rashes have been identified,” said Health Director Bijay Mohapatra.
