Gajapati, April 25: The Gajapati Police have seized 10 quintals of cannabis valued at over one crore rupees from near the Kamalapur checkgate under Mohana police limits in Gajapati district on Thursday.
Two peddlers were held in this connection who were reportedly trafficking the contraband to Maharashtra.
The accused persons were identified as Ramesh Sawalsingh of Chadiapada village and Hemant Swain of Badadumbula village.
Sources said the police as a part of pre-election surveillance, were conducting a blocking & checking of vehicles near the Kamalapur checkgate. Meanwhile, a pick-up van was intercepted from which a huge quantity of the contraband was recovered during search.
An NDPS case was registered in this connection and the accused persons were remanded to judicial custody, said police.
