Jalandhar, June 28: Three youths have been arrested for allegedly gangraping a 21-year-old girl student from Odisha near Dokaha railway crossing on the Jalandhar-Ludhiana national highway, Punjab police said on Friday.
The arrested have been identified as Amanjot Singh, Ranveer Singh and Manjit Singh of Ladhewali.
The incident took place around 1 am on Wednesday when the victim, a BBA student of Lovely Professional University, was returning to her paying guest accommodation along with her two male friends on a bike.
The accused were in the attire of nihangs and intercepted the motorcycle. They threatned the victim and her friends with a sword. Later, they took the victim to a secluded place near the railway crossing along the highway and raped her, said police.
After the trio fled the spot, the victim called up her friends, who rushed to the spot and rescued her. They informed the matter to police and case was registered.
