2,211 women deliver babies in Odisha during Cyclone Dana

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: At least 2,211 pregnant women delivered babies while Odisha was bearing the brunt of cyclone Dana, said health department on Friday adding that eighteen expectant mothers delivered twins.

As many as 34,800 pregnant women were identified in 14 districts and 9,877 of them were due to deliver this week. A total of 4,859 women were transferred to Maa Gruhas. C-section was carried out on 343 women and 1,858 delivered normally, the Health and Family Welfare department said.

The department said three additional director-level officers have been deployed to assist the district public health and chief medical officers in Keonjhar, Bhadrak and Balasore for handling patients, with adequate medicines and anti-snake venom.

Notably, to accelerate the cyclone restoration work, the Odisha government has cancelled holidays of government officers on October 26 and 27.

Due to the impact of the Severe Cyclonic Storm “DANA”, the Disaster Management and other response activities need to be undertaken on top priority, said a senior official.
