Lucknow, Nov 16: The accountant of UP Civil Aviation Minister Nand Gopal Gupta has been duped of Rs 2.08 crore by cyber scammers.
The accountant of 'Nandi', Cabinet Minister in the Uttar Pradesh government identified as Ritesh Srivastava lost the hefty amount while transferring it reportedly to the Minister’s son.
Two teams of the cyber police station have been deployed in the case along with the crime branch to investigate the case.
According to the report, Srivastava wrongly transferred the amount to the scammers without verifying the WhatsApp number of the minister's son.
As a part of the investigation, in an email to the bank officials, the police sought information regarding the bank accounts in which the amount was transferred and instructed them to freeze the concerned bank accounts.
The fraudsters uploaded a profile picture of the son of Nandi on WhatsApp two days before the incident. They demanded the money from Ritesh in a message by the same phone number.
"I am in an urgent meeting, which may last longer. I need the money on an immediate basis," the message read.
Following this, the thugs sent the account details in which the amount was credited later he was ascertained that he was scammed.
