Bhubaneswar: Young athletes Animesh Kujur and A Graceson Jeev representing Odisha won a gold medal each in the 100m and 110m race respectively in the ongoing 4th Indian Open U-23 Athletics Competition 2024 at Patna, Bihar on Sunday.
In the men’s 100m final Animesh Kujur clocked 10.40 sec to claim the gold medal, while Govind Kumar of Chandigarh and Tamil Arasu S of Tamil Nadu won silver and bronze medal by clocking 10.61 and 10.66 sec respectively.
Earlier in the first round, Animesh timed 10.61 sec, however in the semifinals he created a NMR with a timing of 10.38 sec. The previous record was in the name of Pranav Gourav.
A Graceson Jeev won the first medal for Odisha in the three day long meet which will be concluded on Monday. Jeev grabbed the 110m hurdles gold medal with a timing of 14.49 sec. The silver and bronze medal was won by Rathish Rathish of Tamil Nadu and Subham Sing Rawat of Delhi with a timing of 14.56 and 14.58 respectively.
Odisha athletes Mamoj Oram (22.24) and Animesh Kujur (21.84) entered the 200m semifinals to be held on Monday.
