Around 10 Odisha districts likely to be affected by Cyclone Dana: Suresh Pujari

Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: As landfall process of Cyclone Dana begins along the Odisha coast, Suresh Pujari, State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister said that around 10 districts are likely to be affected.

“The evacuation proves has already been completed. Around 10 districts are likely to be affected by the cyclone, comprising 60 blocks, 2131 villages, 12 urban local bodies, and 55 wards in different urban local bodies. Three lakh seventy-seven thousand people have already been evacuated,” Pujari said.

We have prepared 7307 relief centres across different districts. 4756 cyclone relief centres are already operational. As many as 6454 domestic animals have been brought to relief centres and 213 medical teams have been deployed to take care of the evacuated people. Besides, 120 veterinary teams have also been positioned in different locations, he added.

The total response force employed in different districts is 385 that includes 19 NDRF, 51 ODRAF, 220 fire services teams and 95 Odisha Forest Development Corporation teams, the Minister added.

The landfall process of severe cyclonic storm Dana has begun and the forward sector of the wall cloud region is entering into land.  The landfall process would continue today night till Friday morning, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at 12.30 pm on Thursday night.

The system is under continuous surveillance of the Doppler Weather Radar at Paradip, it added.
