Bhubaneswar Durga Puja 2024: Know the strict guidelines for eco-friendly celebrations

Bhubaneswar, Oct 4: In a significant move towards sustainability, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced stringent guidelines for this year's Durga Puja celebrations, aiming for a plastic-free and chemical-free environment.

Under the new regulations, all puja pandals will implement eco-friendly practices, with a complete ban on plastic materials. Dustbins will be strategically placed nearby to promote proper waste disposal.

To maintain a traditional atmosphere, the use of DJ music will be prohibited; instead, only traditional instruments will accompany the rituals. Additionally, alcohol consumption will be banned throughout the puja and immersion period, and the use of firecrackers during the 'Ravana Dahan' ceremony is also forbidden.

To ensure cleanliness, garbage collection vehicles will operate twice daily, and information centers will be established at each puja location. The BMC has also constructed five temporary water bodies specifically for the immersion of idols.

A substantial number of volunteers will be deployed to maintain safety within the pandals, and fire safety measures, along with drinking water facilities, will be provided at each site.

In light of recent inclement weather that delayed road repair work, the BMC has assured that necessary road repairs will be completed before the festivities commence. The Public Works Department has been tasked with expediting the repairs, under the oversight of the BMC Mayor.
