Bhubaneswar, May 10: In a heart-warming gesture, the family members of the elderly couple, who were crushed to death by a speeding truck near the Palasuni area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, donated their eyes to a private hospital in the city.
The two sons of the couple said that it was the last wish of their parents that their eyes should be donated after their death.
Notably, the couple identified as Umesh Panigrahi (66) and his wife Nalini (62) were crossing the road when a truck ran over them leading to their death on the spot early on Wednesday morning.
While Nalini’s mutilated body was found lying on the road at the mishap site, the truck dragged Umesh’s body for nearly one km towards Satya Vihar in the city.
Hailing from Anandapur under Biramaharajpur sub-division of Subarnapur district, the couple was on their way to Puri to have darshan of the holy trinity on the occasion of their 39th marriage anniversary when the mishap happened.
