Bhubaneswar, Dec 31: The Infocity Police in Bhubaneswar are set to take a high-profile fraud couple into remand as part of an ongoing investigation into their deceptive activities. The couple, identified as Anil Mohanty and Hansita Abhilipsa, allegedly defrauded several VVIPs, industrialists, and prominent businessmen in the city.
According to police, Hansita posed as the daughter of the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, PK Mishra, while Anil claimed to be her husband. The couple lived in luxury apartments and drove expensive cars, using their fabricated identities to deceive their high-profile targets.
The couple's modus operandi involved showing fabricated photos of themselves to gain trust and manipulate their victims. During the investigation, authorities discovered that Anil Mohanty owned three companies, prompting the Commissionerate police to investigate the nature of his business and potential financial dealings. Hansita, originally from Kalahandi, had been residing in Bhubaneswar for an extended period.
The police have recovered mobile phones and key documents from the couple, and are now scrutinizing their call records to determine the scope of their fraud network and identify any accomplices. Investigators are working to uncover how long the couple has been operating their fraudulent activities in the state capital.
A case has been filed at the Infocity Police Station under multiple sections, including 329(3), 319(2), 318(4), 62, and 3(5) of the BNS. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities aiming to uncover the full extent of the criminal syndicate.
