Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: The Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) and the State Botanical Garden reopened today after being closed for two days due to Cyclone Dana.
The popular tourist attractions in Bhubaneswar were shut down on October 24 and 25 as a precautionary measure against the cyclone's impact.
To ensure the safety of the animals, zoo authorities took several steps, including relocating them to feeding cells and secure shelters. They also ensured that ample food and fodder were available, deploying 25 teams comprising 100 employees across the park to monitor and protect the animals.
In addition, seven mobile teams with 45 staff members were prepared for emergency situations, equipped with vehicles and essential tools. During the cyclone, four control rooms were activated to facilitate coordinated efforts aimed at safeguarding both the animals and park facilities.
Meanwhile, the State Transport Corporation (STR), which had been closed since October 23, will remain shut for an additional three days due to ongoing heavy rainfall.
