Nuapada, Aug 10: A bridge between Sarabanga and Amanara over Jonk River in the Nuapada district collapsed on Wednesday. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the mishap. The incident triggered a public furore with locals accusing the construction firm of carrying out work of sub-standard quality. Due to the collapse of the bridge, vehicular traffic along Odisha-Chhatisgarh route has been seriously affected and hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road. Villages, agriculture fields, and low-lying areas were flooded as rivers were in spate in several districts of Odisha since Sunday after torrential rain. The meteorology centre also predicted heavy showers across many districts over the next four days.
