Bhubaneswar, Nov 21: The expatriate Odia organization, 'Utkalika Qatar,' recently hosted a vibrant celebration for Diwali and Kartik Purnima at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) in Doha, Qatar. The event, marked by enthusiasm and cultural richness, aimed to bring the Odia community together in the spirit of festivity.
Among the esteemed guests were Dr. Anand Nayar, Principal of Birla Public School, and Soumya Sikdar, President of the Bengali Council, along with Somnath Maji, General Secretary of the Bengali Council, who lit the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the event. Dr. Basant Kumar Kabi, President of 'Utkalika Qatar,' delivered a welcome address highlighting the significance of Diwali, Kartik Purnima, and the tradition of Boita Bandana in Odia culture.
A key attraction of the evening was the renowned Odia singer, Bishnu Mohan Kabi, who entertained the audience with his melodious performances. Over 200 expatriate Odias attended the celebration, joining in dance and song to the rhythms of Kabi’s music. The event also featured captivating performances of Odissi dance, music, and modern dance by local artists, showcasing the diversity of Odia cultural heritage.
Significant contributions to the event were made by the organization’s Vice President Nihar Ranjan Mohanty, General Secretary Abhinash Acharya, Joint Secretary Ipsita Satapathy, Cultural Secretary Sagar Mohanty, and Cultural Co-Secretary Om Prakash Parida, all of whom played pivotal roles in organizing this grand celebration.
