New Delhi, January 25: On the eve of Republic Day, the central government has announced the list of recipients for the Padma Awards 2025.
Among the Padma Shri awardees this year is Dr. Neerja Bhatla, a prominent gynecologist from Delhi, known for her pioneering work in the detection, prevention, and management of cervical cancer.
Bhim Singh Bhavesh, a dedicated social worker from Bhojpur, Bihar, is also honoured with the Padma Shri for his relentless efforts over the past 22 years to uplift the Musahar community, one of the most marginalized groups in society, through his foundation 'Nayee Asha'.
P Datchanamoorthy, a distinguished Thavil instrumentalist with more than five decades of experience in South Indian classical music, is another recipient of the Padma Shri. Additionally, L Hangthing, a fruit farmer from Noklak, Nagaland, with over 30 years of experience in cultivating non-native fruits, will also receive the award.
These prestigious awards, among India’s highest civilian honours, are presented in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. The awards recognize exceptional contributions across various fields, including art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, and literature, among others.
The Padma Shri is the fourth-highest civilian award in India, following the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Bhushan.
