Nuapada, Oct 14: In a tragic incident, a state-level Kabaddi player collapsed on the ground on Monday amid match while scoring a point against his defender.
The incident took place at at Tarabod village under Komna Police limits in Odisha’s Nuapada district in the afternoon.
The deceased is, 26-year-old striker Khageswar Rathia from the Mahasamund area in Chhattisgarh.
As per reports, an inter-state Kabaddi tournament was organised at Tarabod village on the occasion of Durga Puja. The final match between a team from the Hatisara area in Nuapada district and a team from Dudumachua village in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district was underway today.
Just two and a half minutes were left for the game to finish. The onlookers were cheering up the Dudumachua team as it was on the verge of winning the game while Rathia fell unconscious and gasped all of a sudden.
He was rushed to the Tarabod government hospital from where he was later shifted to the Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). The doctors declared him dead while they suspected it as a case of heart attack.
