New Delhi, February 18:: Rajiv Kumar, who was overseeing the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the key Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls, demits office on Tuesday, concluding his nearly three-year tenure as the 25th Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). His time in office was marked by significant electoral milestones, but also by repeated allegations of bias from opposition parties.
Kumar initially joined the Election Commission as an Election Commissioner on September 1, 2020, and took over as the CEC on May 15, 2022. He served the Election Commission for approximately four and a half years in both roles.
Throughout his tenure, Kumar introduced several reforms aimed at improving the Election Commission’s operations, including changes to its structure, technology, capacity development, communication strategies, international collaboration, and administration.
