Bhubaneswar, Sept 3: In view of promoting climate resilient agriculture, the Odisha government commissioned a ‘Climate Resilience Cell’ (CRC) at Krushi Bhavan, Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo inaugurated the new facility in the afternoon.
The CRC of Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment (DAFE) has been constituted for implementation and monitoring of the State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC).
DAFE in collaboration with the international institutional partners aims to create a carbon sensitive policy framework for collaborative research, policy analytics, institutional capacity building, policy engagement and outreach in the backdrop of climate change in Odisha. International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and The Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP) comprise the main knowledge partners in the feat.
Gracing the occasion, Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary, DAFE said, there is unique opportunity to meet the larger carbon goals collectively while keeping farmers and citizens lives and livelihood protected with respect to the new trends of weather and climate change.
Dr. Shahidur Rashid, Director for South Asia at IFPRI, expressed his commitment and enthusiasm for the partnership, stating “IFPRI is glad to support DAFE’s endeavors by bringing its globally recognized expertise in agriculture, climate, and natural resource resilience-related policy research.
