The Coast Guard Headquarters Odisha at Paradip recently conducted a specialized training program to strengthen maritime interdiction capabilities. Officers and personnel from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other Drug Law Enforcement Agencies (DLEAs) participated in this intensive program held from January 20th to 22nd.
Recognizing the alarming rise in transnational drug smuggling through sea routes, the Coast Guard designed this training to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to combat this growing threat. The program underscored the ICG's unwavering commitment to safeguarding India's maritime borders from illicit activities.
Training sessions covered a wide range of critical areas, including:
- Operational and safety awareness
- Law enforcement practices in the maritime domain
- Effective search and seizure techniques
- Inter-agency collaboration and coordination
- Realistic simulation exercises
Dy Inspector General Sanjay Negi, Commander, Coast Guard (Odisha), addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of a unified approach in tackling the challenges of maritime narcotics trafficking. He highlighted the Coast Guard's proactive efforts to enhance coordination among agencies, crucial for effectively countering the threats posed by drug smuggling.
Senior officials from the NCB and DLEAs praised the comprehensive training program and expressed appreciation for the valuable skills gained by their personnel. They acknowledged that this training would significantly contribute to enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness in combating drug trafficking at sea.
