Cyclone Dana: Central team to assess loss & damage of public infrastructure in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: At a time when rehabilitation and restoration after the Cyclone Dana has been undertaken on a war footing by the Odisha Government, a central team will assess the loss & damage caused by the cyclonic storm. 

Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari informed it to media persons on Saturday.

Elaborating the multi-task teams engaged in the coastal districts affected by the Cyclone Dana, Pujari said that clearance of raods, restoration of drinking water projects and electrification are the top priorites fort the teams.

Regarding the assessment of losses to public properties, paddy & other standing crops and public utilities systems, Pujari said that a dedicated team from the Centre will visit the state and collect information from the ground zero.

Following this, immediate steps will be taken to address the issue with utmost care while due compensation will be given to the beneficiaries, based on the field-level assessment, Pujari added.

Cyclone Dana has caused significant destruction across several districts of Odisha, uprooting trees, electric poles, and damaging infrastructure and crops. In response, the state’s agriculture and revenue departments will conduct a joint damage assessment.

Senior government officials have confirmed that a dedicated team has been formed to evaluate the extent of the damage in the affected areas.

Arabinda Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Department, stated that the assessment will take place under the supervision of local district Collectors.

On the other hand, Odisha Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari announced that the damage assessment process is set to begin today and is expected to be completed within seven days.

In a positive development, major road blockages caused by fallen trees have been cleared, providing some relief to residents. Minister Pujari also assured that people who lost their homes during the cyclone would be provided with permanent pucca house.
