Cyclone Dana: Tips to keep your car safe

Cyclone Dana has emerged as a major threat to Odisha and West Bengal as IMD has predicted its landfall between Puri and Sagar Island on October 24 night.

The Odisha government is expecting maximum impact in districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur and Puri.

As the state governments and people brace for Cyclone Dana, the need to also protect property, while saving lives, is crucial.

As the IMD has said Odisha may see gusts up to 120 km per hour, here are some points to keep in mind to keep your car safe during Cyclone Dana.

Park in open area: As the cyclone will bring heavy to very heavy rains and winds with speeds up to 120 km per hour, car owners must try to park their vehicles in open area, away from trees, light/electric poles or walls.

Insurance security: You can take pictures of exterior and interior of your car to claim insurance in case of damage.

Water logging: Drive away from vehicle from low-lying areas to avoid flash flood. The water logging may cause some serious damage to your car.

Documents: Take away important documents from your car, like vehicle registration paper, insurance papers and driving license.

Emergency: For any medical other emergency post-cyclone keep the tank of your car full.As Cyclone Dana approaches; the Odisha government has issued toll-free helpline numbers to assist residents across 15 districts. The main helpline for Cyclone Dana is 1077, while each district has designated control room numbers for local support.
