Pune (Maharashtra), Jan 19: Unable to bear the harassment by moneylenders, a man allegedly poisoned his wife and nine-year-old son before attempting to commit suicide in Chikhali area of Maharashtra’s Pune.
According to police, the man reportedly administered sleeping pills to his wife and son on Saturday morning resulting in their deaths. He then attempted to hang himself from a ceiling fan in their apartment.
The police further revealed that the man had sent a message to his 14-year-old son, who was staying with relatives in Mumbai, informing him about his suicide attempt. His son quickly alerted neighbors to check on his family who then informed the police.
Upon getting the information, police rushed to the spot and broke open the door. They found a man and a woman who appeared to have committed suicide. A child was also lying unresponsive by the bedside.
During further investigation, they discovered that the man was still alive and rushed him to a private hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment.
As per reports, the man had reportedly borrowed Rs 6 lakh and Rs 2 lakh at a monthly interest rate of 10% from two moneylenders. Later, he also took Rs 4 lakh from another lender at a high-interest rate.
Despite repaying the principal amount along with an additional Rs 9 lakh, the moneylenders were harassing him for further payments. Unable to bear the pain, he allegedly took the extreme step.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
