New Delhi, January 15: The national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, has on Wednesday filed his nomination for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections from the New Delhi constituency.
Kejriwal urged voters to focus on the work done by his government rather than resorting to "abuses" in the electoral campaign.
Before submitting his nomination papers, Kejriwal and his wife Sunita, visited the Hanuman and Valmiki temples to offer prayers. Following the religious visit, he led a 'padayatra' from the AAP office to the office of the New Delhi district magistrate, where he formally filed his nomination. Hundreds of AAP supporters, waving party flags, joined the procession as a show of solidarity.
After filing his nomination, Kejriwal expressed confidence that AAP would secure a resounding victory and form the next government in Delhi. "AAP will form the government with a full majority," he declared to the media.
He appealed to the people of Delhi to base their votes on the party's achievements rather than indulging in personal attacks. "I urge the people of Delhi to vote based on work, not abuses," he stated.
Kejriwal also criticized the BJP for lacking vision and leadership. "The BJP has no vision, no chief ministerial candidate, and no narrative. They are not presenting any concrete plans for the next five years. The people of Delhi cannot be swayed by empty promises. They are aware of the BJP's actions," he said.
Addressing concerns about a reported threat to his life from a pro-Khalistani group, Kejriwal expressed confidence that he was under divine protection. "God is with me. As the saying goes, 'Jako rakhe saiyan, maar sake na koye' (Those protected by God cannot be harmed by anyone). Life is in God's hands," he remarked after his prayers at the Prachin Hanuman temple.
Kejriwal, who has represented the New Delhi seat since 2013, will face competition from BJP's Parvesh Verma and Congress's Sandeep Dikshit in the upcoming elections.
