Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan wielded a broom to launch a cleanliness drive at a Bhubaneswar slum on Saturday to encourage people to keep their cities clean.
Accompanied by Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Bhubaneswar mayor Sulochana Das, the Union Minister went about sweeping densely populated Maa Mangala slum in the capital city of Odisha.
Pradhan also felicitated some sanitary workers of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and had a chit-chat with them over tea.
Earlier, he paid tribute to the youngest freedom fighter, Baji Rout, on the occasion of his birth anniversary on Saturday.
Pradhan said, “After the Sahibzadas, if someone gave his life for the country at an early age, it was Baji Rout. The freedom movement against the Britishers was called Praja Mandal and in that movement, Baji Rout sacrificed his life when he was just 12”.
