DRI seizes 9.5 Kg gold worth Rs 7.69 crores at Mumbai airport, two arrested

Mumbai, October 24: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence – DRI, Mumba has arrested two passengers at the Mumbai airport and seized three packages containing foreign-origin gold weighing 9487 gm valued at Rs 7.69 Crores from them.

DRI Mumbai in a press release on Thursday says, the passengers were traveling by flight IX 1762 from Jaipur to Mumbai, intercepted at the Mumbai airport by DRI officials.

Both the passengers voluntarily accepted that smuggled gold was concealed on the international route of the flight, which they had retrieved.

 It was also found that both passengers were traveling with fake identities, said a DRI official

Both the passengers were arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, of 1962, added the press release.

More details on the matter are awaited. Further investigation is underway.
