Sambalpur, Nov 7: In recent development in case of elderly woman and her daughter’s death due to fire incident, police have arrested the elderly woman’s son and grandson for strangling the women duo to death before setting them on fire to show it as a case of a fire incident.
The deceased duo has been identified as Snehalata Dixit, 90, and her daughter Sourendri Dixit, 62 while the accused duo has been identified as Jagannath Dixit (son and brother of deceased) and his son Sanket Dixit (grandson and nephew of deceased).
Sources said, Snehalata lived with her unmarried daughter, Sourendri, a retired teacher. The mother-daughter duo resided on the upper floor of their home, while Jagannath lived with his family on the ground floor. On Tuesday night, the mother and daughter were found mysteriously burned to death while asleep. Family members suspected Jagannath of the crime, believing it was aggravated by a dispute over property.
Acting on these suspicions, the police arrested Jagannath and Sanket, who later confessed to their involvement in the crime during interrogation.
Both father and son are currently in custody.
Further investigation is underway.
