New Delhi, December 29: The ashes of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh were immersed in the Yamuna river near the Majnu ka Tila Gurdwara by his family, following traditional Sikh rituals.

Dr. Singh’s ashes, collected from Nigambodh Ghat earlier in the day, were taken to the 'Asth Ghat' near the gurdwara for the immersion. His wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their daughters—Upinder, Daman, and Amrit Singh—were joined by other family members at the solemn event.

Following Sikh traditions, the family will organize an 'Akhand Path' at their official residence on Motilal Nehru Marg on January 1. This will be followed by a 'bhog' ceremony, 'Antim Ardas,' and 'kirtan' at the Rakab Ganj Gurdwara on January 3.

Dr. Singh, a distinguished economist and statesman who led the nation as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, passed away on December 26 at the age of 92 due to age-related complications. He was cremated with full state honors at Nigambodh Ghat on December 28.

President Droupadi Murmu, among other dignitaries, paid homage to Dr. Singh, who is credited with ushering India into an era of economic liberalization in the 1990s. “We will always remember Manmohan Singh Ji’s service to the nation, his dedication, and his simplicity,” the Congress Party stated on its social media platform.

However, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa expressed disappointment over the absence of members of the Gandhi family during the immersion. “It’s a sad moment for all of us. But no one from the Gandhi family was indeed present today… This is unfortunate, considering the respect Dr. Singh commanded,” Sirsa remarked.

Dr. Singh leaves behind a lasting legacy of economic transformation and humility that resonates across generations.
