Bhadrak, Dec 27: In an unfortunate incident, a farmer was electrocuted after coming in contact with a live electric wire while working in his paddy field in Chandabali locality of Odisha’s Bhadrak district today.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Pramod Das and the incident has been reported from Narsinghpur village under Chandabali NAC in the district.
As per reports, Pramod was burnt alive after coming in contact with a live 11 KV electric wire on his farm land while harvesting paddy early today morning. He sustained severe burns and died on the spot. Subsequently, the fire spread to his farmland, causing damage to crops spanning two acres.
Upon getting the information, police along with firefighters arrived at the scene and doused the flames.
The incident triggered unrest in the area as the villagers claimed that Pramod’s death resulted from the power company's negligence. In protest, they assembled outside the electricity office, demanding compensation for the deceased farmer's family.
However, the electricity company has yet to respond.
The villagers have threatened to continue their protest until the administration or relevant authorities respond and address their concerns.
