Bhubaneswar: When the Mahayuti win in Maharashtra has been historic, the Bharatiya Janata Party had tasted a sweeping and grand victory in the politically significant western state. The party seems all set to win in a record number of seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly history.
The results shows the Maha Vikas Agahdi fell like nine pins, and the Maharashtra map has been painted saffron all around. Name any region. BJP and Mahayuti show sheer dominance everywhere. BJP bettered its best ever tally of 122 in 2014. The party seems all set to win on 132 seats in the just concluded elections to the power seat of Maharashtra.
Be in vote share or number game, BJP has emerged as the runaway winner. The saffron party has garnered its highest vote share of 28.1% in 2014 Assembly, when it contested on whole of the 288 seats. BJP in 2014 won 122 out of 288 seats . The strike rate for the party in 2014 was over 42%.
Cut to the 2024 Assembly polls for the State, BJP had claimed a vote share of 26.6%, when it had contested in 149 assembly seats. The strike rate has been a stunning 88%. The map shows SAFFRONISED MAHARASHTRA.

- Shiv Sena – 67%
- NCP (Ajit Pawar) – 68%
A REGION WISE BREAK UP
VIDARBHA: consists of Amravati and Nagpur divisions. The area is home to over 2cr people, which is 21% of the State’s population. The region’s political importance can be ascertained from the fact that the region alone accounts for 62 of the 288 seats in Maharashtra. The opposition alliance MVA could register win only around 10 seats. The region saw a saffron sweep.
- In the Mahayuti, alliance won in the following pattern.
- Shiv Sena : around 10 seats
- NCP Ajit Pawar – around 3 seats
- BJP won in whopping 39 seats.
- Devendra Fadnavis is considered the strongman in Vidarbha (Nagpur district)
- In Amravati district with 22 seats, BJP and Congress were strong rivals. This area has been the bastion of former CM Vilasrao Deshmukh (father of film star Riteish Deshmukh.
MARATHWADA: This region is State’s another politically significant zone as the region had 46 assembly seats. The Maratha reservation agitation spearheaded by Jarange Patil belongs to this region. His anti Mahayuti stance was considered to be a big factor behind Lok Sabha poor show. Political pundits were expecting another grand show by MVA as Congress is a very strong player here. However the results are given below.
- INC won only 1 seat
- Sharad Pawar led NCP won around 3 seats
- Ajit pawar led NCP won 8 seats
- Mahayuti alliance won 1
- Shiv Sena won 2 seats
- BJP won over 30 seats.
DESH REGION: Is the birth place of Maratha Empire founded by Chatrapati Shivaji. It comprises of the pune district and has been the stronghold of Maratha strongman Sharad Pawar. It form the western Maharashtra and known for the sugar politics. The 2024 elections show Ajit Pawar gaining lead over uncle Sharad Pawar. The region contains 30 assembly seats (Pune + Sangli). - Sharad Pawar led NCP won 4 seats
- Ajit Pawar led NCP won 13 seats
- BJP Won around half a dozen seats
- Shiv Sena won 2
KONKAN REGION: This region of Maharashtra consists of the metropolis Mumbai. This region has a total of 75 seats, 36 seats of which are in Mumbai. This belt has been the stronghold of Balasaheb Thackeray. The 2024 results given below.
- In Mumbai, Cong won in Malad west
- Shivsena UBT won Jhogeswari East.
- BJP dominatesd Mumbai winning
- Aditya Thackeray won Worli seat
- Shiv Sena UBT won Byculla, Versova, Vikhroli. Shivadi, Kalina, Dindoshi et al
- Uddhav Thackrey’s party won in around 10 seats
- Of the remaining 25 seats, majority had been won by BJP.
KHANDESH REGION: the region has three divisions – Nandburar, Jalgaon and Dhule. The region has around 22 assembly seats. The 2024 results follow below.
- Congress could win in only 1 seat
- NCP Sharad Pawar drew a blank.
- NCP Ajit Pawar won half a dozen seats
- Shiv Sena Shinde won half a dozen seats
- BJP won around 10 seats.
The above region wise analysis shows BJP dominance in every region of the western state of Maharashtra. The strategy of BJP poster boy Devendra Fadnavis succeeded. His 2019 famous quote " Main Samundar Hoon , Laut Ke Wapas Aaonga" (I am Ocean, will come back again) turned proverbial truth.
