Baripada, Oct 26: In a significant operation, Commercial Tax and Goods and Services Tax (CT-GST) officials seized approximately 15 kg of gold from a logistics van after intercepting the vehicle in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district on Friday.
Sources said, the enforcement squad of the CT-GST division halted the vehicle at MKC Chhak, suspecting it was involved in gold smuggling. The precise valuation of the seized gold is still not confirmed.
Sources revealed that the van was transporting gold ornaments for various jewelry shops in Mayurbhanj from Mumbai via Kolkata. However, upon inspection, the driver was unable to provide the necessary documentation, raising suspicions among the officials. The driver also could not give satisfactory answers, prompting the CT-GST team to seize the gold and the vehicle for further verification.
Further investigation is underway.
