Bhubaneswar, Mar 21: In view of the prevailing heat wave conditions in the state, morning classes in both government and private schools across Odisha commenced today.
As per the new schedule which was revised to mitigate the impact of the ongoing heat wave, classes of students from Classes I to XII in both government and private schools will now be conducted from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM to reduce exposure to extreme heat.
The School and Mass Education Department has asked district collectors to keep an eye on the weather and make changes if needed.
Secretary Shalini Pandit has told schools to provide enough drinking water and fix the broken tube wells.
To protect students from heat-related illnesses, outdoor activities are limited, and schools must keep ORS packets for emergencies. Parents are encouraged to send their children with water bottles, and awareness programs are being held to stress the importance of staying hydrated.
Schools will also teach students about heat wave safety during school hours to help them stay safe in the hot weather.
