Tokyo, January 13: A long tremor with a magnitude of 6.9 struck the Japan coast on Monday that prompted the authorities to issue Tsunami alert.
According to the reports, the earthquake in Japan took place at 9:19 pm local time, near Miyazaki Prefecture on Kyushu Island.
The tsunami warnings were also issued for the adjacent Kochi Prefecture as the earthquake's epicentre was located in Mahesana.
The powerful earthquake violently struck southwestern Japan that prompted the country’s meteorological agency to issue a tsunami advisory.
The agency’s newscast said that tidal waves could reach up to one meter, though the full extent of the damage was not immediately clear.
Worth mentioning, Japan that’s located along the Pacific’s “Ring of Fire,” is highly vulnerable to seismic activity due to frequent volcanic eruptions and fault lines in the region.
The US Geological Survey also reported the earthquake, which led local authorities to take preventive measures before the cities shivered this evening.
