Rourkela, Dec 13: While recovery of mutilated body parts of a girl, chopped off by a rape accused have wreaked a wave of horror in Odisha’s Sundargarh, a 7-month woman was shot dead here by his hubby for extramarital relationship with his fiancée.
The cruel fellow, who had tried his best to prove the incident as a dacoity, was finally caught by the police with the pistol used in the crime, from a rice pot in the kitchen.
Apart from the hubby identified as Deben Behera, the Tikayatapalli Police has arrested the prime accused’s brother-in-law Satyanarayan Behera who is a cop with Deben’s mother and aunt.
According to the Investigation Officer, the Tikayatpalli Police was informed of a dacoity took place on December 11 in the Jhiridapalli village where a gang robbed gold necklace and earrings from a newlywed woman Soumayamayee Behera. It was also informed that the miscreants shot Behera as she raised protest during snatching of the valuables from her.
Acting on the information, the police rushed to the crime spot and later to the Bonaigada Hospital where the woman was received dead, as a part of primary investigation.
Meanwhile, the father of the deceased woman Pitambar Behera lodged a complaint citing a foul play behind the matter. Based on it, the police detained the deceased woman’s husband and his brother in law in this connection, out of suspect. During interrogation, Deben confessed to his crime.
Based on his confessional statement of the accused, sleuths had recovered a pistol and a few live shots from the kitchen which were concealed in the rice-bowl after committing the crime.
The police on Friday detained Deben, Satyanarayan who is reportedly working as a Jawan in the IRB Battalion, two women in-laws and two youths, who are suspected to pose themselves as dacoits in the pre-hatched murder plot.
