This landmark event, celebrated with a water cannon salute and a roaring Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet flypast, signifies a major leap forward in the airport's journey towards becoming a fully operational aviation hub.
The successful landing trial, conducted on the recently completed 3,700-meter southern runway, was met with enthusiastic applause from onlookers and dignitaries alike. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hailed it as a "historic day" for both Navi Mumbai and Maharashtra, emphasizing the airport's crucial role in easing the burden on the existing Mumbai airport.
With the ambitious March 2025 deadline for the commencement of domestic operations rapidly approaching, this successful trial run instills confidence in the project's timely completion. The Chief Minister even hinted at the possibility of launching operations earlier than scheduled, given the impressive pace of construction. Currently, the terminal building stands at 75% completion, a testament to the dedication and efficiency of the project team.
