New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: India is today celebrating the 77th Army Day to mark a significant moment in the country’s history—the day when military leadership shifted from British control to Indian command after independence in 1949.
Observed every year on January 15, Army day honors the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices of the soldiers who protect the nation.
On this day in 1949, Field Marshal KM Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.
This year, the Army Day is being celebrated with the theme 'Samarth Bharat, Saksham Sena' (Capable India, Empowered Army). The theme highlights the Indian Army’s unwavering dedication to the nation’s defense and security, reflecting its strength and readiness to protect the country.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended their best wishes to the Indian army on the occasion.
President Murmu extended warm felicitations to the Indian Army and said, “The Indian Army plays a pivotal role in ensuring national security. Our soldiers contribute in creating a peaceful environment in the country for its progress and prosperity. The courageous army personnel have consistently displayed extraordinary courage and high standards of professionalism in defending our borders.”
Taking to his official ‘X’ handle, PM Modi also saluted the courage of Indian Army and wrote, “Today, on Army Day, we salute the unwavering courage of the Indian Army, which stands as the sentinel of our nation’s security. We also remember the sacrifices made by the bravehearts who ensure the safety of crores of Indians every day. @adgpi”
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi also extended wishes and wrote, “On this #IndianArmyDay, we salute the bravery, dedication, and selfless service of our Indian Army. Their courage and sacrifice protect our nation and keep us safe,” on his ‘X’ handle.
