New Delhi, Nov 26: Indian Railways is getting ready to test hydrogen-powered trains, with trials planned for December 2024. These trials will take place on the 90-kilometer Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana and represent an important move to reduce the carbon footprint of the country's railway system.
This initiative is part of India's goal to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. Hydrogen-powered trains are environmentally friendly because they produce zero emissions, releasing only water vapor and oxygen into the air.
The trials will explore how hydrogen fuel cells can replace traditional energy sources like diesel, focusing on energy efficiency and environmental benefits. If successful, this technology could revolutionize India’s railway network, offering a cleaner and greener way to travel across the country.
This project is part of India's larger effort to adopt green energy and fight climate change.
