New Delhi, April 27: Selection for Team India's squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is round the corner. Apart from the players, the selectors would be under focus too.
With Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 matches ongoing in India, the players in form and consistent performers might be reckoning their chances to make it into the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup.
In such a situation, if the Chairman of the Senior Men's Selection Committee turns up to watch a particular IPL match, then that is bound to create special interest.
On Saturday, Ajit Agarkar, the Chairman of the Senior Men's Selection Committee, turned up to watch the Delhi Capitals-Mumbai Indians clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium earlier) here.
Sources told IANS that Agarkar was spotted being seated in the commentary box of the media centre at the stadium.
It had been said that Agarkar could meet captain Rohit Sharma in New Delhi after returning from a holiday in Spain to decide on India's squad for the T20 World Cup, starting from June 1 in the West Indies and USA.
The cut-off date for announcing the 15-member Men's T20 World Cup squad for all teams, as set by the International Cricket Council (ICC), is May 1.
India will begin their Men's T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. India, the 2007 Men's T20 World Cup winners, are in Group A alongside Pakistan, Canada and tournament co-hosts USA.
It can be reminded that India won only the inaugural ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2007. It did play the final again later, but the second T20 World Cup trophy still continues to elude Team India. (With IANS support)
