New Delhi, June 28: Uproar prevailed in Lok Sabha on Friday as the Opposition members sought the acceptance of an adjournment motion to suspend all business and discuss matters related to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
Following this, the lower house was adjourned till July 1.
On Friday, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, called for a “respectful” discussion on NEET in Parliament. He emphasized the importance of addressing this issue, which concerns the youth, and urged for a collaborative approach.
"Yesterday, all opposition party leaders met and unanimously agreed that we want a discussion on the NEET issue today. There should be a discussion on NEET in the House. I request the Prime Minister to join this respectful discussion, as it is a matter concerning the youth. A message should go from Parliament that the Indian government and the opposition are united in addressing the concerns of students," Rahul Gandhi told media persons before entering Parliament.
Inside the Parliament, Rahul Gandhi reiterated, "We wanted to give a joint message to the students of India, on behalf of the Opposition and the government, that we consider this an important issue. So, we thought that to respect students, we would have a dedicated discussion on NEET today."
In response, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated, "On behalf of the government, we have made it clear that we will provide detailed information on any issue raised. We assure the members that the Government is always ready for discussion. However, the tendency adopted by the Congress party—halting the proceedings of the House—is not right. I condemn this and appeal for it to not happen again."
