Low voter turnout in Maharashtra at 32.18%, Jharkhand records 47.92% turnout at 1 pm

Mumbai / Ranchi, November 20: The voter turnout in Maharashtra recorded  32.18 percent in the single-phase assembly elections while a turnout of 47.92 per cent was registered in the second phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand as of 1 pm, informed the Election Commission of India.

Among Maharashtra’s constituencies, Gadchiroli district led with a turnout of 50.89%, while district of Mumbai city reported the lowest participation at 27.73%. As per the data of the ECI, Mumbai Suburban recorded a voter turnout of 30.43%, Nagpur 31.65%, Thane 28.35%, Aurangabad 33.89%, Pune 29.03%, Nashik 32.30%, Satara 34.78%, Kolhapur 38.56%, Dhule 34.05%, Palghar 33.40%, Ratnagiri 38.52%, Nanded 28.15% and Latur 33.27%.

In contrast, Jharkhand witnessed a comparatively higher voter turnout of 47.92% by 11 am during the second phase of its assembly elections. Pakur district led with 53.83%, followed closely by Jamtara at 52.21%. Other districts like Dumka (50.28%), Ranchi (52.10%), and Ramgarh (51.26%) reported robust voter participation, while Bokaro recorded the lowest turnout at 42.52%.

Meanwhile, turnout in ongoing by-polls varied across states. Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath recorded a turnout of 34.40%, Kerala’s Palakkad saw 40.16%, Punjab’s Gidderbaha constituency registered 50.09%, and Uttar Pradesh’s Meerapur constituency reported 36.77%.

Voting began at 7 am and will continue until 5 pm, with the results set to be declared on November 23
