New Delhi, January 18: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted fog weather conditions are expected to persist in Prayagraj, the site of the ongoing Maha Kumbh, until January 20.
Dr. Soma Sen Roy, a scientist of IMD has forecasted foggy weather in Prayagraj until January 20.
She informed “Dense fog conditions were observed this morning in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, with visibility dropping to less than 50 meters. Our forecast for tomorrow, January 19, indicates that fog will continue to affect Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and North Rajasthan.”
She further stated that by January 20, the distribution and intensity of the fog would likely decrease. Additionally, Dr. Roy noted that rainfall is expected to continue in the Western Himalayan region for the next five days, with intensity increasing from January 21 and peaking around January 22-23. Rain is also forecast to begin in the plains on January 22 and continue into January 23.
In Prayagraj, fog conditions are expected to persist until January 20. Afterward, temperatures are likely to rise slightly, providing some relief at the Maha Kumbh.
Earlier on Saturday, a thick layer of fog enveloped Delhi, reducing visibility and causing traffic disruptions. Other parts of North India also experienced dense fog conditions. The fog led to delays in both train and flight services, with some flights and trains delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport and New Delhi Railway Station, respectively.
