People from all corners of the globe are converging at the holy city of Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh Mela 2025. With over 400 million devotees, including global dignitaries and spiritual leaders are expected to visit the Sangam between January 13th and February 26th, authorities have taken help and implemented cutting-edge technology to ensure the safety and security of this spiritual gathering.
Managing the crowds and commanding complexities of the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 is quite challenging, but devotees can have a new AI companion to assist them: the Kumbh Sah'AI'yak chatbot. Accessible through the official Mahakumbh 2025 app or WhatsApp, this tool offers multilingual support, interactive guidance, personalised navigation, and cultural insights. Devotees can receive real-time updates on rituals, crowd conditions, and emergency alerts, making the devotees pilgrimage smoother and more informed.
AI-Powered Security
Security is a paramount concern at Mahakumbh Mela 2025, and authorities have implemented AI-powered measures to ensure the safety of all attendees.
Underwater Drones: For the first time, underwater drones capable of diving up to 100 meters are patrolling the Sangam area, providing round-the-clock surveillance. Tethered drones monitor crowd movements from above, enabling rapid response to medical emergencies.
AI-Enabled Cameras: 2,700 AI-enabled cameras equipped with facial recognition technology have been strategically placed at entry points and key locations. These cameras provide real-time monitoring to prevent mishaps and ensure the safety of devotees.
Cybersecurity: A team of 56 cyber techies actively monitors online threats, supported by cyber help desks at all city police stations.
This multi-layered security approach combines traditional policing with cutting-edge technology to create a safe and secure environment for pilgrims and devotees.
At the heart of the security operation is the Integrated Command and Control Center, where police officers monitor screens displaying real-time footage from the drones and AI cameras. This centralized hub allows for efficient coordination and rapid response to any potential security threats or emergencies.
In addition to the AI-powered security measures, traditional security arrangements are also in place. The Uttar Pradesh police have established a circular security system with 102 checkpoints along seven critical routes leading to the Sangam. Over 1,000 police personnel, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables, have been deployed to manage these checkpoints and ensure the smooth flow of pilgrims.
The authorities have also implemented a multi-layered security system, dubbed an "impenetrable security chakravyuh," around Prayagraj to protect key installations, including temples and akhadas (monastic orders).
Mahakumbh Mela 2025: is a blend of tradition and technology. The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 exemplifies how technology can help in monitoring to enhance security and support religious events. With AI and other innovative solutions, authorities have created a safer, more efficient, and more accessible experience for the pilgrims and devotees.
