Bhubaneswar, Mar 24: A youth impersonating a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was nabbed by Sahid Nagar police in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Manas Ranjan Senapati of Basudevpur in Odisha’s Bhadrak district. Senapati used to target job seekers and extort money from them by giving false identity as DSP.
Senapati, who has been staying in a rented house in Madhusudan Nagar under Kharabela police limits in Bhubaneswar, was caught by police yesterday night.
According to the report, during night blocking checking on Sunday night, police officials stopped a car and detained a youth after observing suspicious activities. After investigation, it was found that the youth had allegedly defrauded many people by giving false identity as a DSP.
The police seized several items including a fake police uniform, an appointment letter, over Rs 2 lakh in counterfeit notes, a fake police ID card, a car, a laptop, and a mobile phone from Senapati’s possession.
Further investigation of the case is underway.
