MD predicts chilly nights across Odisha in the next two days

Bhubaneswar, January 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a sharp drop in night temperatures across Odisha over the next two days. Several districts are expected to experience chilly conditions as temperatures plummet further.

Night temperatures are projected to fall significantly in the next 24 hours, with six locations already recording temperatures below 10°C last night. Rourkela recorded the lowest at 7°C, followed by Jharsuguda (8°C), Daringibadi, Phulbani, and Keonjhar (9.5°C each), and Sundargarh (9.7°C).

The IMD reported that the minimum temperature is likely to dip by 2°C to 3°C on Thursday night. On January 2, Rourkela and Keonjhar are expected to record a low of 10°C, while Phulbani and Sundargarh may touch 9°C. Baripada and Angul could see minimum temperatures of around 11°C. In urban areas, Cuttack may record 14°C, and Bhubaneswar could dip to 15°C or lower.

However, temperatures are anticipated to rise gradually from January 5 onwards.

The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for dense fog in the Kandhamal and Angul districts over the next two days. Shallow to dense fog is expected in other regions, including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, and Nayagarh.

Additionally, light to moderate rainfall is predicted for most coastal districts and parts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Boudh, and Sonepur during this period.
