Dhanbad, Nov 12: In an unexpected twist, veteran actor and BJP campaigner Mithun Chakraborty had his wallet stolen during a campaign rally for the upcoming Jharkhand elections. While rallying for BJP candidate Aparna Sen Gupta in Nirsa, Dhanbad district,
Chakraborty’s wallet disappeared in the crowd, leading to repeated announcements urging its return—yet to no avail.
The incident created a stir among the large gathering, with some attendees scaling rooftops and walls to catch a glimpse of the actor. Mithun ultimately left the rally sooner than planned due to the theft. This rally marked his second day in Jharkhand, following campaign events in Kolhan division on Monday.
Before the rally, Chakraborty addressed a press conference, emphasizing his love for Jharkhand and recalling his debut role as a tribal character in his first film, hoping for the tribal community’s support for BJP’s development agenda.
Chakraborty also responded to an online threat reportedly made by Pakistani don Shahzad Bhatti, dismissing any calls for an apology over statements he clarified were misrepresented by the media.
The first phase of voting in Jharkhand’s elections is set to begin on Wednesday.
