Bhubaneswar, February 22: A celestial phenomena is posing an unprecedented alarm for the mainland India, as a monster asteroid identified as 2024-YR is observed to be approaching the Earth like a stony-ignited mass.
The 2024-YR is likely to hit the Earth in the year 2032 whereas major Indian cities including Mumbai and Kolkata are at risk according to the assessment by some ace astronomers.
Asteroid 2024 YR4, which is assayed to be 130 to 300 feet long, is also posing threats for the regions of Maharashtra, Northern Telangana, Southern Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, if the trajectory remains static as of now. However, the impact, depends on several physical and atmospheric factors, that determines the dynamics of its trajectory.
It’s why other vulnerable locations are observed to be in Bogotá, Colombia; Lagos and Nigeria.
Although absolute prediction on its exact impact & probable losses is yet impossible, the 2024 YR4 is anticipated as a flying danger for Indian continent, as it might wreak massive destruction on the earth surface due to its tremendous speed and heating effect.
As per NASA’s observatory the asteroid is likely to strike the earth’s surface with almost 1.5 % of its size and kinetic energy, it would exert during its descending.
Worth mentioning, the concerning asteroid was initially discovered on December 27, 2023, by Chilean El Sauce Observatory and nomenclatured as 2024 YR4.
