Bhubaneswar, June 27: A 19-year-old tigress named Sara passed away at Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoological Park on Thursday, due to age-related complications, officials reported.
Sara, who resided in enclosure number 33, had been receiving treatment but had not eaten for several days before succumbing to her illness, officials added.
Sara, a red tigress, had been part of an animal exchange program, coming to Nandankanan from Bhopal Zoo, while a white tigress was sent in return. With Sara's demise, Nandankanan's tiger count now stands at 26.
Earlier in May, an 18-year-old tiger named Nandan also passed away at the same zoo, while undergoing treatment for age-related issues, specifically a waist-related problem. Nandan was was provided care and treatment by orthopedic department. Nanadan spent his final days in enclosure number 31.
