Naveen Patnaik meets family of slain ‘Police Mitra’ of Bhubaneswar, extends support

Bhubaneswar, January 11: Leader of Opposition (LoP) and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik On Saturday met with the bereaved family of Sahadeb Nayak, a ‘Police Mitra’ who was tragically murdered in broad daylight on January 8 in Bhubaneswar. The meeting was taken place at Naveen Niwas,  Patnaik’s residence in the state capital.

Sahadev Nayak, a member of the Safai Karmachari Sangh of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, was brutally killed on Wednesday in full public view at the Rasulgarh over-bridge, sending shockwaves throughout the state.

During the meeting, Naveen Patnaik expressed his deep condolences to Nayak’s wife and two daughters. He assured them of his support during this challenging time. The former Chief Minister promised to cover the educational expenses of Nayak’s daughters, ensuring their future remains secure despite the tragic loss.

Additionally, Naveen Patnaik provided the family with financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to help them through this difficult period.

Patnaik offered his solidarity and emphasized his commitment to seeking justice for Nayak. He shared a video of the meeting on his X (formerly Twitter) account, writing, “Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will continue to fight until the family gets justice.”

 On the other hand, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for Nayak’s family. BMC also offered a government job to Nayak’s wife, providing her with an opportunity to support her family during this trying time.
