Berhampur, Jan 22: A 25-year-old naval officer, Sourabh Kumar Patra from Berhampur has gone missing under suspicious circumstances.
Sourabh, who was stationed at the INS Garuda base in Kochi, Kerala, was last seen traveling by train to Vishakhapatnam on January 19. His family has raised concerns about his disappearance, suspecting possible abduction.
According to his brother, Sourabh had joined the Indian Navy in 2019 and was posted at the INS Garuda since then. He had come home for a short leave and was scheduled to return to his station on January 19.
On the morning of January 19, Sourabh's family members saw him off at the Berhampur railway station, where he boarded a train to Vishakhapatnam. There after his phone was switched off, and his family lost contact with him. Despite repeated attempts to reach him, they were unable to get through. After searching at the Vishakhapatnam airport, it was found that Sourabh had not checked in for his flight. His mother then filed a missing person report at nearby police station.
The police have started an investigation and have checked Sourabh’s last mobile location, which was found to be near Ichhapuram. However, the circumstances of his disappearance are still unclear. The authorities have sent Sourabh’s photo to various police stations, including the Vishakhapatnam airport.
Further investigation is underway.
