Ex-Mayor K. Madhavi kicks off campaign against her Brother in Brahmapur
Bhubaneswar, April: The political scene can be intriguing, especially when family members find themselves on opposing sides. In the case of the Brahmapur assembly constituency in Odisha, it appears to be a classic “Guru vs. Sishya” contest.
BJD has fielded veteran leader Ramesh Chyaupatnaik as its candidate from Brahmapur assembly seat in the ensuing election.
On the other hand, BJP has nominated K. Anil Kumar as its candidate. Anil Kumar was once a disciple (Sishya) of Ramesh Chyaupatnaik, he is now contesting against his former mentor.
K. Madhavi , the Ex-Mayor of Brahmapur city, who has taken up the campaign trail against her own brother, K. Anil Kumar.
K. Madhavi served as the first Mayor of the Brahmapur Municipality Corporation from October 2013 to September 2018.
K. Anil Kumar played a significant role in her Mayor election in 2013, and they both worked together under the leadership of the then MLA Ramesh Chaupatnaik.
However, in 2022, K. Anil Kumar distanced himself from the BJD after Pradeep Panigrahi (MLA of Gopalpur) was expelled from the party. He joined the BJP in February 2024.
Now, K. Anil Kumar is representing the BJP and contesting against his mentor Ramesh Chaupatnaik, who remains with the BJD.
Brahmapur assembly constituency has a significant Yadav community presence, with over 20,000 votes.
Both K. Madhavi and K. Anil Kumar belong to the Yadav community, which adds an interesting dimension to this electoral battle.
It’s fascinating to see how family ties, political affiliations, and personal ambitions intersect in this electoral drama.
